Self-Evaluation on Informative

So on Friday I gave my informative speech on Boarding School life. I think it went ok probably not as well as my narrative speech. I tended to stumble in some places and got a little lost in my outline so I did not look that confident. I think this happened because I did not know that I was up next I thought I was thrid for some reason, so that caught me off guard and also I think I should have praticed it more. I thought I knew the material well enough because I had gone to boarding school and spent the last four years there. Also I said some ums here and there and tapped my foot and this was because I was nervous and I had stumbled over my speech. So my delivery did not go as well as I wanted it to go. It was not as strong as it could have been. But besides my delivery I think my speech went pretty well. Now I know what to work on for next time.

Informative Round One

I think that the first round of informative speeches went very well. Everyone had some pretty interesting topics and shared a lot thoughtful and useful information on them. I thought the speech on Paul Ruben was presented well and very interesting. The spin on it was creative and humorous. I loved that he made an informative speech with good information and still had some funny points. Comparing him to Martin Luther King Jr. was something I would have never thought of. He spoke clearly and cofidently. His thoughts were concise. The speech was definitely informative because I did not even know that he got arrested again. Overall I thought that it was a very well done speech. I hope my goes well tomorrow.

Evaluation of Self

Well I presented my narrative speech today! I think it went better then I thought it would. I was so nervous before I had to go. My knees were shaking so much, but once I got up there I started to relax. I did speack a little quickly in the beginning and I have been known to do that. So I need to work on that. I have to remember to pace myself and to breathe especially in the beginning of my speeches. I think I got a lot of good feedback from the class. I am glad that they enjoyed it. I was worry that it was not going to be interesting, but I was happy to hear that people really felt like they got to know Madeline. Before I said that one of my worries about presenting was the time limit but I think I did it in the time given. Overall I am pretty happy with the presentation of my speech and I will work on my pacing for next time.

Round One of the Narrative Speechs

First off I like to say that everyone who went on Friday did an excellent job of speaking. I loved the variety of narrative topics and every speaker kept me engaged. Well done everyone!! One particular speaker I liked was Rachel. I thought see had a very interesting topic. She told her story in way where I could visualize her friend and her on top of the snowing mountain. She did a very good job of painting a picture. I think she was able to do this because of how she changed the tone in her voice when needed and she acted out/gesture parts of her story that helped emphasize certain parts. She spoke clearing, calmly and paced herself. Overall I think she did a very good job. I enjoyed her narrative very much.

Narrative Speech

So on Monday I am giving my narrative speech, which I have been preparing for the last couple of days. I am kind of nervous. The areas were a worried about that I might have problems with is the time limit and being relaxed. I am scared that I am either going to go over the five minute time limit or under it. Part of me feels that it is more likely I will be under the time limit and I do not want that to be the case. So that is making a little nervous. Also I want to look relaxed up there sometimes when I get nervous I tend to speak fast but I just have to remind myself to pace myself. I think I will be fine as long as I pratice my speech a couple of times and just keep reminding myself to breathe. I hope all goes well and people enjoy my speech.

Well hello everyone! It is snowing like crazy outside right now here in Boston and I am here in Speech class learning how to blog. This is my first blog ever. This whole blogging concept is something completely new for me, never heard it before I came to Emerson. But it seems to be big part of the courses here. I have to do it in two classes, but I don't mind. I think it is an interesting concept and it makes sense in this day and age with the advancements we have made in technology.

Well, what do I want to achieve by the end of this class? That is a good question, seeing as this is my first offical speech class ever. I never took a speech or debate class in high school, but I did give my share of speeches and we did cover technics and how to improve our public speaking in several of my classes. So in this class my the end of the semester I am hoping that I will be comfortable speaking in public and to be able to present a well thought out arguement that engages my audience. Also in high school something I had to work on was speaking slower well giving speeches and I will continue to work on that in this class. Even though I feel I am much better at speeching slower. Well I look forward to this class and more future blogging. Until next blog, Peace.
